Foreigners choose Portugal to marry

The priest returned to study and read English, rehearsed the homily several times and even took the written text to the altar. Celebrating that marriage was making him more nervous than usual - it was the first time he did it in English for Irish believers. "I had to understand how the celebration was in Ireland. It has a different aspect: at the beginning of the Eucharist two candles are lit, reminiscent of baptism." Miguel Neto, head of the Tourism Ministry of the Algarve diocese.

Since that first time in 2010, he has lost count of the marriages she celebrated in English. Portugal - and in particular the Algarve - has become, for foreigners, an increasingly popular destination to marry. If in 2006 there were 230 marriages of foreigners, in 2012 they were more than 582, reaching 901 last year (data from the Ministry of Justice). It is Brazilians, Germans, Italians and Irish who marry the most.

There are representatives of hotels and other services such as catering, lodging, photography, video, animation (music) or rental of classic cars.
